About the Coalition

The Erie County Drug and Alcohol Coalition (ECDAC), established in 1993, is an all volunteer 501(c)3 organization. The board of directors and general membership represent human service agencies, health professionals, law enforcement, parents, business and community leaders, elected officials and others concerned with the development of an integrated drug and alcohol education and prevention delivery system. ECDAC is the oldest coalition of its kind in Pennsylvania.

In the past, the coalition has helped support local projects such as workbooks for school programs directed at drug and alcohol prevention and summer camp scholarships for at-risk youth. It also provides informational booths at local events.

Our Mission

To reduce substance use and stigma in Erie County by educating communities about prevention, intervention & treatment.

The Erie County Drug and Alcohol Coalition organizes an annual conference. The conference was developed and held in the 1990s for a few years and resurrected in 2009 with the help of some new board members. The field of substance use prevention, intervention and treatment is ever changing.

Up to date and affordable training is essential for professionals and service providers to remain effective. The ECDAC conference provides continuing education credits for: Certified Addictions Counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, PA Nurses and Certified Case Managers.

Currently, there are limited number of trainings offered in NW PA that meet the educational requirements of the Coalition’s constituents and members. This conference provides the credits without the cost of travel/meals/hotel etc. which can consume an agency’s training budget.

The conference also provides a forum for participants to discuss current concerns and issues as well as network with local agencies and professionals.

In May 2011 the Erie County Drug and Alcohol Coalition launched a website at www.eriedrugandalcohol.org with the help and support of a grant from the Erie Community Foundation.
